Began painting in 1938 and attended the College Of Art, Dublin where he studied under Sean O’ Sullivan.

Moved to Highgate, North London in 1942 with a senior position within Aer Lingus remained there until 1989  when he moved back to Ireland and opened his own gallery ‘The Chatsworth Gallery’ in Castlecomer, County Kilkenny.

Shelley exhibited widely in London and the Home Counties, holding one- man exhibitions in seventeen different galleries, as well as several mixed shows.

Mostly paints mostly in oil but is also comfortable with pastel and watercolour. Specialises in landscapes and is primarily a figurative painter.

He follows his own style and is not influenced by any movement or genre.

Despite very little recent advertisement or promotion his work has a good following and has sold world wide.
