ARTISTS STATEMENT
The main aim of my body of work ‘World Without End’ is to express the fragility of life, through my own journey and family history and also through a sense of connection with people worldwide that may have had similar experiences in their lives. I have a particular interest in art, trauma and healing and this has always been the essence of my work.
The theme of these allegorical paintings is investigated by use of symbolic figures, animals, motifs and elemental backgrounds alongside exploration of surfaces, layers, textures and colours to evoke memories or emotions. The line between the real and the imaginary is often blurred and a sense of letting go in the painting is connected to a sense that life and destiny are beyond our control. Colours define the moods of both sombreness and joy in the pieces. The paintings always aim to be spiritually uplifting.
